Bannerghatta National Park (25-Mar-2005)
With the impending long weekend, there was an arduous desire to make a trip. With all the guys opting out owning to their obligations, the left-outs were myself and Krish. We had a burning desire to do a trek as with the imminent summer it will not be possible to do one until end of the year. But the planning went futile as we were just two.
Finally to kill the desire, we made a quick trip to Bannerghatta National park. It didn't spoil the spirit. The long standing desire to make a short trip in bike was also satisfied. We started around 9:50 am reached the park by 10:15 am. It is just 17 kms from BTM. Believe me, the road to the park is one of the worst in the world (reminding me the joke of NASA testing Mars Rover in Bannerghatta Rd). The first 10 kms took 15 mins in bike.
We got our tickets for "Grand Safari" and boarded the mini-bus. Since we were bit early there was no big queue, which is usual on weekends. The first animal to show up is the bison and deer.
Even we had a chance to see bison fight.
Then came the samba and spotted deers. We then entered the range of bears.
One bear was pretty quick to react and came too close to the vehicle.
Then we went to see the Lion resting along the shady trees.
We could see lot of tigers in this safari. Some of them are protected with cages and the rest moving freely. We had a chance to see the white tiger too.
The forest area covered by the safari mostly looked dry. There were minimal green trees as mostly the region is rocky and no chance for rain water to percolate.
After an hour long bumpy ride in the safari, we came back to the zoo. There were samples of all fauna that they could preserve in the zoo. To appreciate, there is atleast minimal maintenance in zoo.
